Who runs this site

TheGreenWatt (thegreenwatt.com) is a personal educational website operated by Marko Visic, a sole proprietor based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. For any privacy questions or requests, write to info@thegreenwatt.com. We aim to respond within a few days, and in any case within 30 days as required by GDPR.

What this site does and doesn't do

TheGreenWatt is a free educational site about solar energy. It contains interactive calculators, articles, and reference data. It does not:

  • Have user accounts, logins, or registration of any kind
  • Sell anything or process payments
  • Collect names, addresses, phone numbers, or financial information from visitors
  • Operate a newsletter or mailing list
  • Sell or trade visitor data with third parties

Calculator inputs (panel wattage, ZIP code, system size, and similar) are processed entirely in your browser and are never sent to or stored on our servers, with one exception described under Third-party APIs below.

Data collected automatically

When you visit, your browser provides standard request metadata to our hosting provider (Vercel): IP address, user-agent string, requested URL, HTTP referrer, and timestamp. Vercel processes this for security, abuse prevention, and to serve the page. We do not query or store this data ourselves.

Google Analytics

If you accept the cookie consent banner, this site loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID: G-ERGSSN695Z) to count visitors and see which articles are read. Google Analytics sets cookies (notably _ga and _ga_*) that store a randomly-generated visitor ID in your browser for up to 24 months. The information collected is aggregate page-view data.

We do notenable Google Signals, demographics & interest reports, or advertising features in Google Analytics. Google may still process the data subject to its own terms. See Google's privacy policy for what Google does with it. You can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on to block Google Analytics on every site that uses it.

If you decline the cookie banner, Google Analytics is not loaded at all and no Google cookies are set. The site works identically.

Advertising

We are applying for Google AdSense and may display advertisements on this site in the future. If and when ads are running:

  • Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads. The DoubleClick DART cookie allows Google to serve ads to users based on their visits to this site and other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting Google's Ads Settings page.
  • You can also opt out of personalized advertising via aboutads.info/choices (US Digital Advertising Alliance) or youronlinechoices.eu (European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance).
  • Advertising cookies are gated by the same consent banner described above. If you declined the banner, ads, when introduced, will be served in a non-personalized manner where possible.

Contact form

The form at /contact/ is relayed by Web3Forms, a third-party form-to-email service. When you submit the form, your name, email, chosen topic, and message text are sent through Web3Forms and forwarded to info@thegreenwatt.com. We use the information solely to read and reply to your message. We do not add submitters to any mailing list or share submission data with anyone else. See Web3Forms' privacy policy for their data handling.

Third-party APIs we call on your behalf

The Peak Sun Hours calculator at /peak-sun-hours-calculator/ accepts a U.S. ZIP code or geolocation coordinates and forwards them, server-to-server, to two external services:

  • Zippopotam.us — a free public ZIP-code database used to convert a ZIP code to latitude/longitude.
  • NREL PVWatts v8 — U.S. Department of Energy API used to fetch solar irradiance data for that coordinate.

These requests are made from our server, not your browser, and do not include your IP address. The coordinates are used for the lookup and discarded — they are not logged, stored, or associated with any visitor identifier.

Cookies and local storage in detail

This site can set the following client-side storage items:

  • gw-consent-v1(browser localStorage, this site): stores your cookie banner choice ("accepted" or "rejected"). Strictly necessary; set with no consent required.
  • _ga, _ga_* (Google Analytics cookies): set only if you accept the banner. Expires after 24 months. Used to distinguish unique visitors.
  • Advertising cookies from Google may be set in the future once AdSense is approved and only if you accept the banner.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time using the Cookie preferences link in the site footer.

Your rights under GDPR (EU/EEA/UK visitors)

Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is generally no personal data tied to you that we hold and could produce, correct, or delete on request. If you nonetheless wish to exercise your rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, or objection, email info@thegreenwatt.com and we will respond within 30 days. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data-protection authority. In Slovenia, this is the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).

Your rights under CCPA (California visitors)

We do not sell personal information. California residents may email info@thegreenwatt.com with any request related to their personal information; we will respond within 45 days.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect any information from them. If you believe a child has provided information through this site, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page changes. Material changes will also be flagged in the site footer for at least 30 days.
